The international bestselling book series, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare is being turned into a T.V show on ABC Family, now named Freeform. Shadowhunters, the name of the new T.V. show, premiered on January 12, 2016.

The story follows 18 year old Clary Fray who lives in the Mundane, human world, and soon gets introduced to the Shadowhunter world. Shadowhunters are an ancient race of human/angel breed that protect the Mundanes from demonic forces. Clary Fray is a part of the race of Shadowhunters, but does not know about it. Her mom has kept her in the dark about the Shadowhunter world with the help of memory blocking spells, but as she approaches adulthood, the spells wear off and she starts to notice the hidden world around her. The show/book follows her epic adventures as she starts to uncover the truth about herself and her family.

The series follows a flopped movie attempt in 2013. Due to poor rating with the movie, many fans of the novel were very hesitant to accept news of a new version of the beloved book. Many anxious fans have voiced concern about the writers of the show changing the story line and not following the book faithfully, which is always a huge concern for book to movie adaptations. After watching the first episode, there appears to be hope amongst the Mortal Instrument fans. It is evident that many of the minor details of the story are being changed up to make the show more appealing to a wider audience.
