Deer Park High School’s short film, Caught Up, is the 2023 6A State Champion! The film is a comedy about a teenage girl and her crazy best friend who seek revenge and to expose the boy who wronged her.
The film was created by seniors Luke McKinley (writer, director), Alejandra Acosta (writer, production designer), Adam Rodriguez (writer), and junior Nautica Espino (writer, director of photography). It stars senior Aubrey Smith alongside Kourtney Ann, Cesar Renteria, and Kristin Scheffer.
The film’s producers began developing the project in the summer of 2022. It was put into production in December and completed in January 2023. It went on to be selected as one of six state finalists in the 2023 UIL Young Filmmakers Festival where it was named state champion on February 22, 2023 in Austin Texas.
