Blaze briefly forces school district and residents to shelter-in-place.

Early in the morning of August 31st, a small fire ignited inside of the Hexion facility, north of 225.The fire caused no injuries and the emergency response team worked to extinguish it within 20 minutes.  The investigation has not yet found a cause to the fire.

“In the past six months, this is the first time [an incident has occurred], and as far as precautions it is kind of hard to say right now, because the causes of the incident are still under investigation,”  Shell Automotive Mechanic, Noah Warner said.

Meanwhile, a shelter-in-place occurred north of P street, as well as throughout the school district. The city contacted Principal Steve Corry to inform him of the situation.

“Immediately, I went into safety mode and called the school. That’s when we got the announcement out,” Corry said.

The emergency situation didn’t last long and the district shortly released schools from the shelter-in-place.
