Summer Care

You know what time it is? It’s time for summer! The heat glides in when you least expect it and it makes cars into toasters and houses into safe havens until the A/C breaks down. We can sweat to beat the heat, but our furry friends can’t.  The best they can do is lay in the shade. Here’s where you can help. First, get a pool like the ones at Walmart at the garden entrance. Then, get bags of ice – 2 or 3 would be good. Maybe a fourth if you have a really big dog. Once your dog is done laying in the pool of ice, they’ll want to go on a walk. When walking your dog, you’ll want to avoid asphalt. Their feet are very sensitive and if you are going out to do any outdoor activities do it at dawn or dusk. Next, to keep them busy during the day while you are away, freeze a bunch of squeaky toys in a bowl of water. Once it’s frozen, pluck it out of the bowl and give it to your dog to chew on. It will keep him or her busy all day. In addition to freezing water, you can also freeze the toys in chicken broth. This will also offer them a nice snack while they gnaw their way through it.

If you have cats, make sure to give them plenty of water throughout the day. Mostly, they will sleep all day and roam all night. So, you will not need to worry about your cats as much as your dogs.

For other furry creatures, also remember to give them cool clean water often.
