The Deer Network is proud to host a screening of Deer Park High School’s 2018-2019 short film, “But For The Birds On The Roof” on Thursday March 28, 2019.
The short film is a drama that follows Shaun–a smart, driven college freshman–who is forced to come to terms with a worsening mental illness. Following a break up and series of setbacks, he realizes he must get help to get better and win back the girl he’s meant to be with.
The film was created by seniors Abby Sparks and Destiny Hernandez, and junior Mandi Gamble. It stars junior Gavin Connor, senior Emily Gage, and Fairmont Junior High theater teacher Sarah Kouba.
The producers of the film traveled to Austin on March 5 for the UIL film state finals where they received second place for the “Nobelity Social Impact Award,” which honors student films that inform and inspire audiences about issues that the teams care about and promote social change.
The screening will be held next Thursday, March 28 in the Deer Park High School Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 PM. In addition to the short film, there will also be a behind-the-scenes, making-of featurette and blooper reel.
The event will be held at the Deer Park High School Performing Arts Center beginning at 7:30 PM and is open to the public. Admission is free of charge.
