The Deer Park Deer had their homecoming/district game Friday October 13th to continue district play against the 3-2 South Houston Trojans (2-0 in district) to try to improve their district record to a fast starting 3-0. The Deer demolished the Trojans with a final score of 34-12 led by Junior Quarterback, Broc Weidner and Junior Running back, Tyrek Saylor. Tyrek racked up a total of 3 touchdowns along with Broc going 10 for 13 with a total of 116 yards. The Deer offense has had no problem scoring this year averaging a net score of 42 points a district game.
“We started off slow but as the year has gone by we’ve picked up the paste and gotten things rolling,” Qb Broc Weidner Said.
The defense for the Deer held their ground like any other game only allowing a total of 12 points and a minimum amount of yards. Senior Linebacker, Race Moser, picked up a fumble recovery and ran it to the end zone for a touchdown capping off a terrific game from the defense. Only allowing an average of 10 points a game, the defense has pushed along with the offense dominating every game to lead to a 3-0 record in district play outscoring their opponents with an 42-10 score averaged out every game.
“Our defense has proved to be one of the best Deer Park has had in years and the best in the district,” Defensive Tackle Noah Wood said.
They continue district play on Thursday October 19th at 7:00 against the winless 0-6 Pasadena Eagles (0-3) in district to try to extend their win streak in district to 4 games and take 1st place in 6A District 22. While they prepare for this game, the long-hated rivals, the La Porte Bulldogs wait for Friday October 24th to take on the Deer in one of the nationally ranked high school rivalry games at Abshier stadium to try to snap the Bulldogs 3-win streak over the Deer for the past 3 years. The game usually dictates who takes home the district 22 crown.
Defensive lineman Aubrey Coleman says “We treat this game as if it’s the last one we will ever play.”
