Deer Park High School had a big game on October 26th as they took on the Baytown Sterling Rangers. This wasn’t a normal game, this was the inaugural homecoming game for the 2018 season. This game turned a lot of heads because every play was a nail biter… up until about 6 minutes left in the first quarter. The rangers scored first on a 85 yard pick six. Some would think that this would shake the confidence of the Deer, but that wasn’t the case. The deer stormed back with a drive down the field finished off by a 32 yard run to the house.

This lifted the confidence of the Deer as the defense stormed back onto the field. On the second play of the rangers drive, Luke Schaper (Deer Park) picked off the Ranger Quarterback, and ran it back 25 yards for a touchdown.

A player with a big night for the Deer was Tylan Love, a wide receiver. He ran for a 32 yard touchdown, and also threw for a 35 yard touchdown. Yes, he threw the ball and executed it with perfection.

“I had been working on that play for one day,” Love said

Deer Park quarterback Brock Weidner also made a huge impact on the game. He threw for two touchdowns, both over 40 yards. His first target was Tylan Love and his second was Marcus Molina.

All in all, the Deer offense exploded for 63 points on Friday Night, setting a season high in points. The team played with confidence all night, out scoring their opponent by 35 points and scoring 9 touchdowns. The team takes on West Brook High school on November 2nd in Beaumont.

Scoring Summary:

Baytown 7-14 Deer Park (End of first)

Baytown 14-35 Deer Park (End of second)

Baytown 21-56 Deer Park (End of third)

Baytown 28-63 Deer Park (End of fourth)
